Sharks, Groundhogs ... Hmm.
Forgot to mention what we did over the weekend. We went to the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, WA.
Sophie was blown away.
She was riveted at the big "outer reef" tank, watching the tuna and the sharks swim round and round. She was really into the seahorse exhibit, which by the way is very well done. It's their featured exhibit right now.
When we were getting ready to go, we cruised by the aquarium again. The zoo was getting ready to close -- hours are 9am to 4pm -- and the aquarium was empty. Sophie walked right up to the outer reef tank and just sat down. A few minutes later, a tiger shark (about 6 ft long!) swims right up in front of her, and stops by resting on the bottom. So there they were, looking at each other.
Sophie had a huge, pleased smile. The shark looked just like a shark, with no expression at all.
They looked at each other some more. And that's it, really. It seemed like they were headed for some interaction, but looking at each other was tops in that category. Anyway, we'd like to go back with some other kids/parents, but we'll see.
Last night was our neighbor Sindee's Groundhog party, where we meet, eat some dinner, and then watch Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. Great movie. Had a good time, and Sophie was fun while she was there (she got awfully tired and had to go to sleep).
