Where's The Sleep Ritual?
Nels is clearly calling for some sort of nighttime ritual. He's not getting to sleep in any orderly fashion. Sleep is totally a skill to be learned. Not just anyone can do it, unless you're teetering on exhaustion. And then, that's just a nap. Sleep, real sleep, like through the night, is a skill. And it's aided by a ritual, or routine.
Sophie had one. It centered around a bath, which happened daily. She quickly adapted to her routine; I think infants really like routines. It's gotta be comforting, considering all the overwhelming insanity of the world.
I think we're going to try slipping into some sort of daddy's walk (while Sophie's getting bathed by her mama), followed by (SURPRISE!) a bath. Then nursing, then sleep. We'll see how that goes.
We skipped out on Saturday Dad's walk, Sunday church, and Monday NWEI* Healthy Children, Healthy Planet meeting. We're losers.
